Corrosion-Proof Stainless Steel Coil – 316 Hairline Finish

Overview

316 Hairline Stainless Steel Coil is an austenitic, molybdenum-enriched (2–3%) alloy delivering superior corrosion resistance, especially in chloride-rich environments like marine, chemical processing, and coastal architecture. Its distinctive hairline finish features uniform parallel lines that conceal scratches while providing a sleek, satin-like aesthetic. Ideal for applications demanding both durability and visual appeal, this grade excels in stainless steel coiled pipe systems and architectural cladding.

Detailed Properties & Performance

1. Tensile Strength and Bendability

With a minimum tensile strength of 485 MPa, 316 Hairline coils withstand high-pressure applications like stainless steel coiled pipe in heat exchangers and refrigeration systems. The alloy’s elongation (≥40%) allows deep drawing and tight bending (radius ≤1.5× thickness) without cracking. Post-bend annealing (850–1050°C) restores corrosion resistance if work hardening occurs.

2. Corrosion Resistance & Rust Prevention

Molybdenum enhances pitting/crevice corrosion resistance in chloride environments (e.g., seawater, chemical splashes). Rust occurs only under extreme conditions:

  • Chloride Exposure: Prolonged contact with >500 ppm chlorides above 50°C induces stress corrosion cracking.
  • Surface Contamination: Iron particles or grease disrupt the passive chromium oxide layer.
  • Thermal Damage: Carbide precipitation at 427–857°C reduces intergranular corrosion resistance.
    Preventive measures include:
  • Passivation: Nitric acid treatments restore oxide layers after machining.
  • Regular Cleaning: Neutral pH cleaners remove chlorides and organic residues.

3. Identification & Certification

Coils comply with ASTM A240, EN 10088-2, and JIS G4303. Each batch includes:

  • Mill Test Certificate (EN 10204 3.1) with heat number, chemical/mechanical data.
  • Laser-etched grade markings (e.g., "316HL" for Hairline).
  • Third-party validation (SGS, TÜV) for critical applications.

4. Weight Calculation Formula

Calculate coil weight using:
Weight (kg) = Thickness (mm) × Width (mm) × Length (m) × Density (8.0) ÷ 1000
Example: A 1.2mm × 1219mm × 500m coil weighs ≈5,850 kg (±1% tolerance).

Applications

  • Architecture: Elevator panels, façade cladding, railings (hairline finish hides wear in high-traffic areas).
  • Heat Exchangers: Stainless steel coiled pipe for condensers and evaporators (resists chloride-induced pitting).
  • Industrial Fabrication: Stainless steel strip coil for automotive trim, kitchen equipment, and medical devices.
  • Chemical Processing: Reactor linings and pipework (immune to organic acid corrosion).

Why Choose Our 316 Hairline Stainless Steel Coils?

  1. Zero-Defect Surface Integrity: Hairline finishes achieve ≤0.5µm Ra smoothness via precision abrasive brushing, reducing friction in stainless steel coiled pipe systems.
  2. Global Compliance: Certified to ISO 9001, PED 2014/68/EU, and ASME Sec. VIII for pressure vessels.
  3. Precision Tolerances: Thickness controlled to ±0.02mm for aerospace and medical stainless steel strip coil applications.
  4. End-to-End Customization: Slitting, annealing, and edge-milling tailored to stainless steel coil manufacturers' specs.
  5. 15-Year Corrosion Warranty: Guaranteed against pitting and crevice corrosion in certified environments.
