Stainless Steel Pipes | 2507 Super Duplex Marine-Grade Tubes

Product Overview

Our 2507 super duplex stainless steel pipes are engineered for extreme marine, chemical, and oil & gas environments. Combining exceptional corrosion resistance, double the yield strength of standard austenitic steels, and superior thermal stability, these ASME/ASTM-certified pipes are ideal for offshore platforms, seawater desalination systems, and high-pressure hydraulic pipelines. With a mirror-polished finish and ultra-hygienic surface, they also meet FDA and EHEDG standards for food, pharmaceutical, and semiconductor applications.

Key Mechanical Properties

Tensile Strength

  • Yield Strength: ≥550 MPa | Ultimate Tensile Strength: 800–1000 MPa.
The high tensile strength ensures structural integrity in high-pressure systems like subsea oil pipelines and chemical reactors. Its duplex microstructure (50% ferrite + 50% austenite) provides superior resistance to deformation under extreme loads.

Bending Strength

  • Cold bending up to 180° without cracking, compatible with standard pipe stainless steel dimension tolerances. Suitable for complex installations in shipbuilding and offshore rigs.

Material Properties & Advantages

  1. Corrosion Resistance

    • Chloride Resistance: 25% chromium and 4% molybdenum prevent pitting and crevice corrosion in seawater, sulfuric acid, and chloride-rich environments.
    • Stress Corrosion Cracking (SCC): Duplex structure resists SCC even at temperatures up to 300°C, outperforming 316L and 2205 grades.
  2. Temperature Stability

    • Operates reliably from -200°C to 300°C, ideal for cryogenic LNG storage and high-heat exhaust systems like 5 inch stainless steel exhaust pipe applications.
  3. Hygienic Design

    • Mirror-polished surfaces (Ra ≤0.4 μm) inhibit bacterial growth, compliant with FDA 21 CFR and EHEDG guidelines for sanitary systems.

Weight Calculation Formula

Weight (kg/m) = (OD – WT) × WT × 0.02491
Example: For a pipe stainless steel dimension of OD 141.3 mm (5") and WT 6.55 mm:
(141.3 – 6.55) × 6.55 × 0.02491 = 22.3 kg/m

Why Stainless Steel Pipes Corrode?

Despite its corrosion-resistant reputation, stainless steel can rust under specific conditions:

  1. Chloride Exposure: Prolonged contact with seawater or de-icing salts induces localized pitting, especially in low-pH environments.
  2. Galvanic Corrosion: Direct contact with carbon steel or copper in conductive fluids accelerates electrochemical degradation.
  3. Low Oxygen Environments: Stagnant water or crevices prevent chromium oxide layer formation, leading to crevice corrosion.
  4. Improper Welding: Unpassivated welds or excessive heat input during fabrication create vulnerable intergranular corrosion zones.

Identification & Marking

  • Laser Etching: Permanent labels include grade (UNS S32750), OD, WT, heat number, and ASTM/ASME compliance.
  • Color Coding: Red bands for seamless pipes and blue bands for welded pipes ensure quick visual identification.

Applications

  • Marine Engineering: Seawater cooling systems, offshore rigs, and 5 inch stainless steel exhaust pipe networks.
  • Oil & Gas: Subsea pipelines, hydraulic fracturing (fracking) lines, and pipe stainless steel flange connections.
  • Chemical Processing: Reactors, heat exchangers, and acid transport systems.
