Stainless Steel Pipes | AISI 316Ti/321 Acid-Resistant Solutions

Product Overview

Our AISI 316Ti/321 stainless steel pipes are engineered for extreme corrosion resistance in acidic, high-temperature, and marine environments. Designed to meet ASTM/ASME standards, these pipes are widely used in chemical processing, stainless steel flue pipe systems, and offshore applications. With superior durability and a mirror-polished finish, they comply with FDA, EHEDG, and 3-A sanitary standards for pharmaceutical and food-grade systems.

Key Mechanical Properties

Tensile Strength

  • AISI 316Ti: 500–700 MPa | AISI 321: 485–620 MPa
The high tensile strength of AISI 316Ti ensures structural stability in high-pressure systems like chemical reactors and exhaust manifolds. AISI 321’s titanium-stabilized microstructure prevents carbide precipitation during welding, making it ideal for heat exchangers.

Bending Strength

  • Both grades exhibit excellent ductility, allowing cold bending up to 180° without cracking. Compatible with standard stainless steel pipe distributor tooling for precision shaping in HVAC and automotive exhaust systems.

Material Properties & Advantages

  1. Corrosion Resistance

    • AISI 316Ti: Contains 2–3% molybdenum and 0.7% titanium, resisting pitting in chloride-rich environments (e.g., seawater, sulfuric acid).
    • AISI 321: Titanium stabilization prevents intergranular corrosion, ideal for welded assemblies in nitric acid and thermal cycling applications.
  2. High-Temperature Performance

    • AISI 316Ti: Stable up to 870°C, suitable for stainless steel flue pipe networks and boiler components.
    • AISI 321: Maintains integrity at 800°C, perfect for aircraft exhausts and furnace parts.
  3. Hygienic Design

    • Mirror-polished surfaces (Ra ≤0.4 μm) prevent bacterial adhesion, meeting FDA standards for pharmaceutical and dairy industries.

Weight Calculation Formula

Weight (kg/m) = (OD – WT) × WT × 0.02491
Example: For a stainless steel pipe exporter standard size (OD: 114.3 mm, WT: 6.0 mm):
(114.3 – 6.0) × 6.0 × 0.02491 = 16.1 kg/m.

Why Stainless Steel Pipes Corrode?

Despite their corrosion-resistant properties, degradation can occur under specific conditions:

  1. Chloride Exposure: Prolonged contact with seawater or de-icing salts induces pitting, especially in stagnant environments.
  2. Galvanic Corrosion: Direct contact with carbon steel or copper in conductive fluids accelerates electrochemical breakdown.
  3. Low Oxygen Environments: Crevices or stagnant water prevent chromium oxide layer formation, leading to crevice corrosion.
  4. Improper Welding: Unpassivated welds or excessive heat input create vulnerable zones for intergranular corrosion.

Identification & Marking

  • Laser Etching: Permanent labels include grade (316Ti/321), OD, WT, heat number, and ASTM/ASME compliance.
  • Color Coding: Red bands for seamless pipes and blue bands for welded pipes ensure quick identification.

Applications

  • Chemical Processing: Acid transport lines, reactors, and stainless steel pipe distributor networks.
  • Automotive: High-performance exhaust systems using stainless steel flue pipe components.
  • Oil & Gas: Offshore rig pipelines, hydraulic fracturing (fracking) lines.
