Stainless Steel Pipes | Seamless 2205/2507 Oil & Gas Tubes

Product Overview

Our seamless 2205/2507 duplex stainless steel pipes are engineered to withstand the harshest conditions in oil & gas, marine, and chemical processing industries. Combining exceptional corrosion resistance, high mechanical strength, and superior thermal stability, these ASTM/ASME-compliant pipes are ideal for subsea pipelines, hydraulic fracturing (fracking) systems, and sour gas environments. With a duplex microstructure (50% ferrite + 50% austenite), they outperform conventional stainless steels in chloride-rich and high-pressure applications.

Key Mechanical Properties

Tensile Strength

  • 2205: ≥620 MPa | 2507: ≥800 MPa
The high tensile strength of 2205 and 2507 ensures resistance to deformation under extreme pressures, making them ideal for deepwater oil pipelines, pressure vessels, and hydraulic systems. The duplex microstructure provides excellent fatigue resistance, even in cyclic loading conditions.

Bending Strength

  • Both grades exhibit outstanding ductility, allowing cold bending up to 180° without cracking. Compatible with stainless steel pipe threader tools for precise threading in offshore rigs and refinery installations.

Material Properties & Advantages

  1. Corrosion Resistance

    • 2205: 22% chromium, 3% molybdenum, and 5% nickel resist chloride-induced pitting, stress corrosion cracking (SCC), and sulfide stress cracking (SSC) in sour gas environments.
    • 2507: 25% chromium, 4% molybdenum, and 7% nickel offer superior resistance to seawater, sulfuric acid, and high-temperature chlorides.
  2. Temperature Stability

    • 2205: Operates reliably from -50°C to 300°C, suitable for Arctic pipelines and thermal processing equipment.
    • 2507: Stable up to 300°C, ideal for subsea Christmas trees and geothermal systems.
  3. Cost Efficiency

    • Duplex steels reduce material costs by replacing high-nickel alloys like Inconel while maintaining comparable performance.

Weight Calculation Formula

Weight (kg/m) = (OD – WT) × WT × 0.02491
Example: For a stainless steel pipe measurements of OD 219.1 mm and WT 12.7 mm (Sch40):
(219.1 – 12.7) × 12.7 × 0.02491 = 63.2 kg/m.

Why Stainless Steel Pipes Corrode?

While 2205/2507 duplex steels are highly corrosion-resistant, degradation can occur under specific conditions:

  1. Chloride Exposure: Prolonged contact with seawater or brine solutions exceeding 60°C may induce pitting in inadequately passivated surfaces.
  2. Galvanic Corrosion: Direct contact with carbon steel or copper alloys in conductive fluids accelerates electrochemical breakdown.
  3. Hydrogen Embrittlement: Exposure to hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) in sour gas environments can cause sulfide stress cracking (SSC) if material hardness exceeds NACE MR0175 limits.
  4. Improper Welding: Excessive heat input during welding disrupts the ferrite-austenite balance, creating vulnerable zones for intergranular corrosion.

Identification & Marking

  • Laser Etching: Permanent labels include grade (UNS S31803/S32750), OD, WT, heat number, and ASTM/ASME compliance.
  • Color Coding: Yellow bands for 2205 and red bands for 2507 ensure quick visual identification in storage and installation.

Applications

  • Oil & Gas: Subsea pipelines, pressure valves, and stainless steel pipe schedule chart-compliant systems for sour gas extraction.
  • Chemical Processing: Reactors, heat exchangers, and acid transport lines.
  • Marine Engineering: Seawater cooling systems, offshore platform structural supports.
