Mechanical & Chemical Properties

Tensile Strength

Tensile strength measures a material’s resistance to breaking under tension. Our stainless steel threaded rods (A4-70 grade) achieve tensile strengths up to 1000 MPa, ideal for high-stress applications like solar panel installations, bridge construction, and heavy machinery. Austenitic grades like 304/316 balance strength (520–860 MPa) with ductility, making them suitable for structural frameworks and TIG welding stainless steel filler rod compatibility.

Bend Strength

Bend strength reflects resistance to deformation under load. 3/8 stainless steel threaded rod exhibits bend strengths of 60–70% of tensile strength, ideal for threaded fasteners in corrosive environments. Cold-drawn rods enhance bend resistance by 20–30%, ensuring stability in dynamic applications.

Identification & Marking

Stainless steel rods are labeled per international standards:

  • ASTM A276: Denotes hot-rolled bars (e.g., 304, 316).
  • DIN 976-1: Specifies stainless steel threaded rods (A2/A4 grades) for heavy-duty applications.
  • ISO 3506: Ensures corrosion resistance in fasteners.
Laser etching or embossing guarantees traceability of material grade, batch number, and manufacturer.

Weight Calculation

Weight (kg) = Volume (m³) × Density (7930 kg/m³ for austenitic steel).
Example for a 10mm diameter, 1m round rod:
π × (0.005m)² × 1m × 7930 kg/m³ ≈ 0.62 kg.
For 3/8 stainless steel threaded rod (M10):
Threaded length × Density ≈ 0.48 kg/m. Custom weights vary based on alloy and dimensions.

Why Stainless Steel Rusts: Causes & Solutions

While stainless steel resists corrosion via a chromium oxide layer (≥10.5% Cr), specific conditions trigger rust:

  1. Chloride Exposure: Saltwater or de-icing salts degrade passive layers, causing pitting. Use 316/L (2–3% Mo) for coastal/chemical environments.
  2. Galvanic Corrosion: Contact with carbon steel or copper accelerates oxidation. Insulate dissimilar metals.
  3. Mechanical Damage: Scratches or welding defects expose iron. Passivate surfaces post-fabrication.
  4. Low Oxygen Environments: Stagnant water in crevices breeds crevice corrosion. Design gaps >0.5mm for oxygen flow.

Why Choose Our Stainless Steel Rods

  1. Certified Quality: ISO 9001 and ASTM-compliant production with traceable material batches.
  2. Customization: Tailor stainless steel threaded rods, TIG welding stainless steel filler rod, or round/square rods to exact dimensions.
  3. Fast Delivery: 15–35-day lead time with global logistics partnerships.
  4. Sustainability: 100% recyclable alloys reduce environmental footprint.
  5. Technical Support: Expert guidance on welding, corrosion prevention, and load calculations.
